Dr Michiel Botha

MBChB MMed (Rad. Onc)

DR MICHIEL BOTHA completed his MBChB degree at the University of Pretoria in 1996.

Before starting his specialization in Bloemfontein, he spent time working in Kroonstad, the UK, and Canada as a General Practitioner.

Dr Botha completed his MMed degree in Clinical Oncology in Bloemfontein in 2005.  He decided to stay on in the Academic Sector and focussed on Clinical Research.

During this time, Dr Botha was Chairman of SASCRO (Society of Clinical and Radiation Oncology of South Africa, from 2016-2024.

In 2015 he moved to George and joined Cancercare for 7 years. He was Chairman of Cancercare 2018-2020 and served on several Advisory Boards during this time.

In 2021, Dr Botha established a new practice in George – EDEN ONCOLOGY, with his colleagues Dr Lee-Ann Jones, and Dr Marianne Kruger.

DR MARIANNE KRUGER completed a MBChB degree at the University of Pretoria in 1987.

She did her internship at Tygerberg hospital and continued to work as a Medical Officer (MO) in different departments which also included oncology in 1993 and 1994.

In 1995 she moved to Botswana and worked as a MO at the Gaborone private hospital until an oncology unit was set up and worked  there from 2000 – 2002.

She decided to specialize in Oncology and completed MMED Rad Onc at the University of the Free State in Bloemfontein in 2007 where she remained as a specialist until 2012. There after Dr Kruger went into private practice in Bloemfontein until 2016.

In 2016 she joined Cancercare in George and in 2021 she started Eden Oncology with her partners, Dr Jones and Dr Botha.

 

Dr Lee-Ann Jones

MBChB FC (Rad. Onc)

DR LEE-ANN JONES MBCHB FC Rad Onc (SA) originates from the Eastern Cape.

She studied an MBChB degree at the University of Cape Town and graduated in 1997.  In 2004 she completed her oncology training at Groote Schuur Hospital.

Dr Jones was appointed as an oncologist at GVI Oncology in Port Elizabeth in 2005. In addition to consulting, she headed the trial unit at the Eastern Cape Oncology Centre as a principal and sub-investigator for several international clinical trials.

In 2015, Dr Jones relocated to Cape Town to join the Independent Clinical Oncology Network (ICON) as Clinical Executive where oncology treatment protocol review and development was one of her main focus areas.

Her heart has always been in patient care and in 2017, she moved to George to return to clinical practice.

Although she specialises in the treatment of all malignancies according to internationally accepted protocols, she has a particular interest in the treatment of  breast cancer, gynaecological, skin and gastro-intestinal cancers.

Dr Jones has training and experience in Gammaknife stereotactic radiotherapy which is applicable to certain benign and malignant brain diagnoses.
